The organizer of the Utrecht Jazz Festival was certainly saving the best for last. As the most anticipated concert of this 5 days festival, Michael Borstlap, supported by Boudewijn Lucas (bass guitar), Erik Kooger (drums) and Sanne van Hek (trumpet), is one of the biggest names that confirmed the quality of what is widely called by media as the Dutch Jazz Festival.
Last night he played the numbers taken by his CD, El Dorado. The music of what he called as borderless, a combination of jazz with punk, urban, and dance. Overall, it was surely a world class performance. Although too bad that it was not so interactive and no ‘encore’ despite of a long applause. Too bad for me, I was enjoying it too much.

Given to Borstlap’s big name, the venue was already full when I got there 15 minutes before the concert. Thus I didn’t get a good shooting spot as usual. But that gave me the opportunity to move around. Although, the organizer was a bit concerned of having people sitting on the flor, particularly if you sit on the isle. Yet during the last two songs people were doing it anyway.
The setting is the same as Kessler’s shooting yesterday. I set 1250 ISO, and put my aperture to 1.6-2.0 and 1/80-1/125 speed. During the shooting I deliberately tilted my camera so I could get the compositions I was after, and I quite like the result.
