Well sort of, it’s just some of the photos from the Rumor Festival are featured at the SAPSITE and 3voor12/Utrecht. At the SAPSITE you will only see one photo from Alec Empire, while at the 3voor12/Utrecht, there are 4 pictures from the 3 concerts of Rumor.
Another great news is that now I’ll be contributing as a freelance photographer for an online jazz magazine: Jazzenzo. I am very excited and looking foward to their assignments. Btw, you can check my first contribution here.
The organizer of the Utrecht Jazz Festival was certainly saving the best for last. As the most anticipated concert of this 5 days festival, Michael Borstlap, supported by Boudewijn Lucas (bass guitar), Erik Kooger (drums) and Sanne van Hek (trumpet), is one of the biggest names that confirmed the quality of what is widely called by media as the Dutch Jazz Festival.
Three words to describe the concert: fun, fun, fun. What an energetic performance it was. You could dance along, they are dancing along. And that’s what Bernie’s Lounge offered last night for the Utrecht Jazz Festival.
Coming all the way from Chicago, the quartet delivered a soulful performance on the third day of the Utrecht Jazz Festival. Their composition sounds somehow blues to me. Sometimes it seemed they don’t belong together but certainly right on. So you can certainly enjoyed the powerful solo and improvised collaboration.
It was not a rumor that anyone can come and enjoy the Rumor Festival. The variety of music offered by the organizer is unlimited and surely creative. For the last concert, it was the turn of Alec Empire. With his keyboard and electronic music, he might sound violent to you. But once you recognized the beat you might surprise yourself by enjoying it.
Having been around in the jazz scene for years, a long applause for Erdmann 3000 was not an exaggerated gesture. Since they have delivered an energetic and inspiring performance of a postmodern jazz, where the experimental trip of Daniel Erdmann (saxophone tenor), Frank Möbus (guitar), Joannes Fink (bas), and John Schröder (drum) was truly enjoyable
It felt like walking through a tropical forest, stepping on old woods, smelling the dumpy air, and listening to the noises of winds, branches and unknown animals. It felt like a journey, where we expect the unexpected, be excited with what to come and at the same time scared of what would happen next.
One who is not familiar with Indonesian music, probably expects a set with pentatonic tones and traditional drums or percussions. But this is not just music from Indonesia; this is music from Indonesia composed by classical background componists. Bernadeta Astari, Ivan Garcia Artaraz, and Elwin Hendrijanto, all students from the Utrecht Music Conservatory, have shown the audience at the Theater Kikker last night, how their passionate minds and feelings on Indonesian music can deliver a World Class performance.
There was no words spoken in that concert, but High Tone has proven to be able to communicate with their audience. The music speak for itself and satisfy the souls that were coming to Ekko tonight. With a mix of punk, techno, reggae, sometimes Asian tones and mostly rock, one can certainly enjoy this French-originated-band on a Thursday night like this, when weekend is almost there and you have already fed up with your work.
Another confirmation came in today for the Utrecht Jazz Festival, which will be held on March 11-15, 2008. The festival welcomes 19 performances at four different venues; the Utrecht Music Conservatory, Vredenburg, RASA, and SJU Jazz Podium. I’ve got the credential to shoot at the SJU Jazz Podium.
